The term "transpersonal" means "beyond the personal." Transpersonal Psychology can be described as the area of psychology which integrates both psychology and spirituality. Its central concept is "self-transcendence" which is a sense of identity with something that is deeper, broader and more unified than the individual self.
Transpersonal Psychology also encompasses "non-ordinary" states of awareness (e.g. mystical experiences, paranormal, psychedelic experiences, etc.) and incorporates Western and Eastern approaches to the growth, development and evolution of consciousness.
